French-English language exchange in Paris

Half the room wants your English. You want their French.

You pair with someone learning the opposite language, get a topic, and talk about yourself while they take notes and give you honest feedback. Then you switch partners. The night ends with a Story Slam: your best story of the evening, retold in the other language.

The Format

What to expect

  1. Step 1

    Pair up

Hosts match you with someone learning the opposite language, so both sides get what they came for.

  2. Step 2

    One-on-one rounds

You get a topic and talk about yourself: your routine, your best trip, your plans. Your partner listens, takes notes, and gives you honest feedback. Then you switch.

  3. Step 3

    Story Slam

Small groups come together and everyone retells their best story of the evening, but in the other language. Expect laughs and a few "wait, how do you say that?" moments.

Questions

Language Exchange FAQ

My French is terrible. Should I still come?
Yes, that’s exactly who this is for. The rounds are one-on-one with someone who wants to practise English with you, and the topics come with prompts.
Do I really get feedback?
Yes, that’s the point of the format. Your partner takes notes while you speak and tells you honestly what worked and what didn’t. Kindly, but honestly.
Is it awkward to come alone?
No. Everyone gets paired up from the first round, so there’s no standing at the edge of a group waiting for a gap in the conversation.
